References to the ringing of this peal appear in the York Courant of 20th. January, 1789 and 27th. November, 1809. Ernest Morris also makes mention of it in his “History and Art of Change Ringing” (Page 302), though he records the time taken as 3 hours 42 minutes. Richard Beeforth (or Beeford) was born in 1734 and died in 1814, and was also instructor to the gentlemen ringers of Helmsley and Malton.
